FABRIC REQUIREMENTS

Here's what's needed to make a baby blanket approximately 30" x 40":

· Enough fabric to make 18 - 6" patterned squares (your baby's clothes).
· Enough fabric to make 17 - 6" neutral squares (I can provide this fabric)
· Enough fabric for a 30" x 40" back plus border (I can provide this fabric)

Ideas for the patterned fabric (your baby's clothes):

· A maximum of 18 different articles (you must provide this fabric). You may send more than 18 and let me make the final design decision but if you have a favourite that must go in, mark it obviously with a safety pin.
· If you're sending fewer than 18 pieces, make sure to send enough to get 18 - 6" squares (minimum 6 articles unless one is a big dress or similar).
· I like to incorporate pockets, graphics, snaps, denim seams etc. but if you don't like this idea, let me know ahead of time.
· If you have a special portion of the fabric you would like incorporated,
please place a safety pin on it.
· A theme is fun: dogs, bugs, flowers, hearts.

Ideas for neutral fabric (I can provide this fabric):

· Enough fabric to make 17 - 6" squares. 1/2 yard/meter is usually enough.
· I like to use one fabric only but if you have a variety of neutral fabrics,
this can be incorporated.
· I like to use an un-patterned, neutral colour or very lightly patterned
(ex. soft stripes) for these blocks.
· A white or off-white is nice but if you have many clothes that are these colours,
it is nice to have a contrasting colour.
· I can provide this fabric

Ideas for the back/border fabric (I can provide this fabric):

· Enough fabric to cover 30" x 40" plus room for sides and border.
One yard/meter is usually enough.
· It looks nice when the back fabric matches the neutral squares on the front
but it is not required.
· An idea is to use an old crib sheet, but make sure it's in good condition
without stains if possible.
· Receiving blankets are generally not big enough for the back.
· I can provide this fabric

Please do send:

· Clothes that make you say "Aaaaaw, I remember this one!"
· Fabrics that are in good condition and not heavily stained.
· A good variety of fabrics: dark, light, denim, colourful.

Please do not send:

· Anything that you can't stand to see cut up.
· Sweaters or knitted garments.
· Items that will be too small to get a 6" square out of.
· Heavily stained or torn fabric although I can always try to avoid the stain or tear.
